IB Middle Years Program
The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP)* is an educational framework for students in Grades 6-10 that fosters the development of creative, critical, and reflective thinkers. Through a strong emphasis on intellectual challenge and the real-world application of knowledge, the MYP promotes intercultural understanding and effective communication. It equips students with the skills and mindset needed to thrive as engaged global citizens and future leaders.
In the MYP, each student is enrolled in a course of study with classes in the following subjects:
Subject Groups
Program Components:
Approaches to Learning
The IB Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills are grounded in the understanding that learning how to learn is essential, both in and beyond the classroom. Integrated across all IB programmes, including the MYP, these skills develop five key transdisciplinary competencies: thinking, communication, research, self-management, and social interaction.
Key Concepts
Key concepts are broad, powerful ideas that form the foundation of learning within the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). Embedded across all subject areas, they help students develop deeper conceptual understanding by encouraging them to explore connections, patterns, and relationships within and beyond the classroom. Through ongoing engagement with key concepts, students are supported in transferring knowledge across disciplines and applying their understanding in meaningful and authentic contexts.
Global Contexts
Global contexts provide a shared framework for learning in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), helping students understand the relevance of their studies within local, global, and intercultural settings. Integrated throughout the programme, global contexts encourage students to explore real-world issues, consider multiple perspectives, and recognise how learning can lead to meaningful action. They support students in making authentic connections between classroom content and the wider world around them.
Personal Project
The Personal Project is a culminating experience in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) that allows students to explore an area of personal interest through independent inquiry, creativity, and reflection. Through the process of setting goals, conducting research, developing skills, and creating a final product or outcome, students demonstrate the Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills developed throughout the programme. The Personal Project encourages students to take ownership of their learning while making meaningful connections between their passions, academic understanding, and the wider world.
